Welcome to
Kierfiold Cottages
Accommodation in the heart of Neolithic Orkney
Unwind & Relax
The cottages are the perfect, peaceful base for couples to unwind, relax, and explore the stunning Orkney Isles. They enjoy spectacular open views across Orkney's West Mainland to Harray Loch, Skaill Loch, and the Hills of Hoy. Skaill Bay, with its world-famous Skara Brae village and long sandy beach, is a mile away (a pleasant evening walk).
“Stunning views and quality of light”
The cottages share a two-and-a-half acre site with Kierfiold House, a Victorian dower house. Guests are free to wander the walled garden which houses an abundant plant collection.
“Thoroughly enjoyed the stillness of the setting. Totally relaxing”
Many of our guests return year after year and describe Kierfiold as their happy place where they can truly reconnect.
“Bliss. I loved falling asleep to the plaintive cry of oystercatchers”
Kierfiold Garden
There has been a garden at Kierfiold for 150 years and today this nationally recognised garden provides a secluded, sheltered place to relax and explore the abundant plant collection.
The garden is sheltered by a high wall and a line of sycamore trees which allows a wide range of geraniums, hostas, irises and poppies to flourish. The ‘gardens within gardens’ layout has lovely, sheltered seating areas to sit and enjoy the stunning surroundings.
“The garden is a lovely haven, brim-full with plants and flowers”
It is alive with birds, bees and butterflies which range over the collection of more than 120 species and hybrids of perennial geraniums. Depending on how busy life is, the garden can be presentable or pleasantly wild…don’t expect a show garden, but do expect a tranquil place to take a book and a cup of tea (or glass of wine!)
The garden has featured in the Scottish Field, Scotland on Sunday and BBC’s Beechgrove Garden and is included in the books ‘Island Garden’, by Jackie Bennet, and ‘Scotland for Gardeners’ by Ken Cox.
Cottage guests are welcome to treat the garden as their own.
